South of the city of Salzburg, situated above the picturesque city of Hallein on Dürrnberg mountain, there is one of the oldest show mines in the world. Here on Dürrnberg the reason for the legendary richness of the historic Salzburg can be found. The Celts already mined the "white gold", and these resources brought an immeasurable wealth to the archbishops of Salzburg. Although salt seems to be rather unimpressive today, its importance for the history of the region was immense. In the salt worlds you will vividly experience how this gift of nature is won.

The journey into the depths of the salt worlds starts with the handing out of miner's clothes. Dressed in white, you go into the depths of the mine by a small train. From one level to the next you move via a polished slide. A miner tells you the story of the salt and of mining on Dürrnberg, a raft brings you across the famous salt lake, surrounded by mystical sounds.
